Install on macOS

Install the package, grant Microphone and Accessibility, and find the app in your menu bar.

macOS builds ship as inkspoke-osx-Setup.pkg and require Apple Silicon — an M1 or newer, running macOS 13 Ventura or later. There is no Intel build on the current download page.

InkSpoke runs as a menu-bar app. It deliberately has no Dock icon, so after installing, look in the top-right menu bar rather than the Dock.

Installing

  1. 01
    Open the .pkg
    Download inkspoke-osx-Setup.pkg and run it.
  2. 02
Handle the Gatekeeper warning if it appears
Depending on the build, macOS may report that the developer cannot be verified. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the message about InkSpoke, and choose Open Anyway.
  3. 03
    Launch it
The InkSpoke icon appears in the menu bar and the setup wizard opens.

The two permissions that matter

macOS is the strictest of the three platforms, and InkSpoke genuinely cannot work without these. The setup wizard walks you through both.

PermissionNeeded forWhere
MicrophoneCapturing your voice at allPrompted directly by the app the first time
AccessibilityTyping text into other apps, and reading your selected textSystem Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility
!
Accessibility cannot be granted from inside the app — macOS only lets InkSpoke open the right settings pane for you. You must toggle InkSpoke on there yourself, and it is worth quitting and reopening the app afterwards.

A third permission, Screen Recording, is requested only if you use meeting recording, because capturing system audio goes through the same macOS API as screen capture. Plain dictation never asks for it.

Performance

On Apple Silicon, local transcription uses Metal by default and is roughly seven times faster than running on CPU. You do not need to configure anything.

Where your data lives

Settings, the local database, and logs live here. Models and recordings default here too and can be relocated from Settings → Storage.
